This is the thing about a motif: It is recognisable. It is distinct and it is recurring.

A motif is a pattern repeated: In music it is the recurring pattern that creates the coherence in the piece. It is what ties the notes together into a piece to be savoured, appreciated.

The most powerful motifs are the simplest ones:

“DA-DA-DA-DAAAAAAA!”.

Beethoven composed a whole symphony around those 4 notes. You recognise that motif, right now. You know what it is about and where it is going.

In your identity. What are your identity motifs?

Which are the recurring patterns/beliefs/thoughts that make up your coherent identity?
